Aligned Bio raises $3.6m to accelerate commercialisation of nanowire-assisted single-molecule
detection platform

Aligned Bio AB, a life-sciences technology company developing high-sensitivity nanowire platforms for single-molecule detection, today announced the successful closing of a $3.6 million (35M SEK) financing round. This represents the largest capital raise in the company’s history since its founding in 2019. The round was supported by a mixture of existing and new shareholders, including Almi Invest, LU Ventures, and STOAF, and was led by the prominent Swedish family office LMK. The proceeds will be used to fuel the company’s transition into a commercial phase, targeting high-growth sectors of Next-Generation Sequencing and ultra-sensitive protein detection within the life sciences and diagnostics industries.

“We are delighted to receive the support of existing and new investors alike, especially the involvement of LMK.” said Pete Corish, who formally joined the business as CEO in June to lead commercialisation activities.“ Aligned Bio will now begin a key transition for our Single-Molecule Detection technology into the high growth markets of Next-Generation Sequencing and Proteomics as we look to partner with leading companies in these sectors over the next six to twelve months.”

Anders Månsson, CEO of LMK, said “Our investment in Aligned Bio continues LMK’s approach to supporting innovative and exciting businesses, thereby supporting the growth and profile of Swedish industrial sectors globally. Aligned Bio’s technology will directly address worldwide healthcare issues and we are proud to share this same vision with the Aligned Bio team.”

Aligned Bio will now focus on the completion of its core technology development, centred on its versatile nanowire sensing platform that enables ultra-sensitive molecular detection and high-accuracy DNA sequencing (in excess of 1000 bases) using industry standard equipment and SBS reagents. The platform will deliver results that are currently unachievable at the current cost points in the market. A key priority for the company during the coming period is the scaling of manufacturing methodologies for its nanowire consumables, ensuring the company can meet the volume and performance needs of the market. Additionally, the company will pursue collaboration discussions with companies seeking enhancement of their legacy platforms’ performance, while maintaining existing workflows and achieving seamless integration with current, in-market, instruments.

About Aligned Bio

Aligned Bio AB, founded 2019 in Lund, Sweden is based on research from Lund University and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Aligned Bio develops and markets a nanowire technology platform for single-molecule detection capability. This capability could enable longer read lengths than conventional short-read systems and up to 200-times higher immunoassay sensitivity at orders of magnitude lower cost than existing technology.

Aligned Bio demonstrates breakthrough single-molecule sensitivity with commercially available DNA sequencing instrument optics

Aligned Bio’s technology platform for nanowire-assisted single-molecule sequencing can eliminate phasing errors and could allow for high-accuracy medium to long read lengths of up to at least 3,000 bases when template amplification is eliminated. Longer reads deliver significant advantages for high‐impact applications within oncology, diagnostics, microbiome analysis, and pathogen detection.

Aligned Bio has shown that a commercially available benchtop sequencing instrument, originally designed for imaging DNA amplicons, can directly image single DNA molecules when equipped with the company’s nanowire sensor, eliminating the need for amplification of the template. Traditional sequencing by synthesis chemistry relies on template amplification to create enough signal to visualize the sequencing process.

“With the ability to sequence single molecules we eliminate a source of errors that ultimately limits read length, and additionally allows the preservation of epigenetic marks in the template.” says the company’s CEO, Dr. Kenneth Harlow.

Aligned Bio’s nanowires act as optical waveguides that efficiently collect fluorescence photons emitted during sequencing reactions and direct them, with defined spatial directionality, toward the instrument’s existing imaging optics. By confining and guiding light from individual molecules into the detection path, the nanowires substantially enhance signal‐to‐noise and enable reliable visualization of single DNA strands using commercially available sequencing hardware.

“We are very excited about our nanowire-assisted single-molecule sequencing breakthrough, and believe this technology has broad potential - not only in sequencing, but also in high-sensitivity diagnostics, including for example protein biomarker detection and point-of-care applications.”

Aligned Bio’s abstract titled “Evaluation of nanowire-assisted single molecule sequencing using a prototype microfluidic flowcell and standard sequencing by synthesis chemistry” has been accepted as an E-Poster by the European Society of Human Genetics Conference (ESHG 2026), taking place in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 13-16, 2026.
